Lovebugs on your car in Jacksonville: what to do

Wash lovebugs off within a day or two. Their bodies turn acidic as they sit in the sun and can etch the clear coat. Soak them first, never scrub them dry.

When is lovebug season?

In North Florida, lovebugs swarm twice a year, in late spring (about May) and late summer (about September). They are thickest on warm afternoons near highways like I-95 and I-295.

Why they hurt paint

A lovebug's body is acidic. Left on a hot car for days, the remains bake on and can etch the clear coat, leaving marks that need polish to remove.

How to get them off

Soak the front of the car with water or a bug remover and let it sit a few minutes so the bodies soften. Then wipe gently with a wet microfiber towel. Never scrape them off dry: the grit scratches the paint.

How to make it easier

A protected car lets go of bugs much faster. A paint sealant or a ceramic coating keeps them from sticking hard, so a rinse and a soft wipe takes most of them off.

When to call us

During the season, a wash plan keeps the front of the car clean before the bugs can etch it: $50 a month, or every 2 weeks for $90 a month. We come to you with our own water and power.
